The first time I read Harry Potter I was at the beach for a family vacation and my aunt bought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to use in English class with her eighth graders. It was the first I’d really paid attention to Harry Potter…after all, my daughters were barely in school, let alone reading. But we were quickly hooked.
I read the first two books OUT LOUD to my daughters. Thank goodness by the time the 800 pagers were printed they could read the books themselves! Of course, unfamiliar with some of these English names I hopelessly butchered the pronunciation of many of the character’s names. It wasn’t until we went to the first movie that we said, “THAT’S how you pronounce Hermione?”
We have all the movies(and books of course) and a video game or two. And as soon as the last movie comes to our town we’ll be in line for tickets. With this horrendous weather we’ve been having a Harry Potter marathon of our own. At the hottest part of the day we crank up the AC and put in a movie. My oldest daughter is also re-reading all the books (something she always seems to do before we go to see a new movie). I fear her enthusiasm is contagious and my younger daughter and I will be reading soon! Oh the mania!
Stumbled across a few fun free (through September, at least) e-books you, or your favorite Potter fan, might like.
I loved Hagrid. So tell me…who was your favorite Potter character?
