Jodi, Writer’s Digest is $.30 to $.50 a word, right?? I have to say, I did a little bit of a double take, but figure WD can afford it. What’s the best way to pitch these kinds of pieces?

That’s what my notes say but truthfully I’ve never sent anything to Writer’s Digest. A very intimidating market for me! Normally I send the entire thing…especially with tips, humor, mini-essays, or ancedotes. If it reads like an article–maybe “Three Ways to Get Editors to Notice You” I send the complete thing if it’s under 250 words but if it’s over 250 words I query first.

Hope that helps! These are great things to do in the shower or when another writing assignment has you crazy. I’m still trying to get Reader’s Digest to accept something from me!

I have to agree with Sara about Writers’ Digest–I need to do this more with fillers. I love fillers! Thanks for this post as well as the one on THE MUFFIN! Great information.
